A small town in Germany becomes a testing ground for a smart grid

WildpolThe Mayor was sensational keynote speaker at C4CE conference June in Canberra – A small German town is an interesting experiment proving high-renewables future is viable. Wildpoldsried (pop. 2,600) currently produces 500% more energy than it needs(2012 EUR7.5Million!!) through renewable energy systems, selling the surplus back to grid…it’s not without challenges…how to integrate such large local surplus of renewable energy into greater grid while maintaining network stability. Which is why regional utility AÜW and Siemens chose Wildpoldsried to test out a smart grid that automatically stabilizes power network.
