Australia plans to be a big green hydrogen exporter to Asian markets – but they don’t need it

New research finds Japan has 14 times more solar and offshore wind energy potential than needed to supply all its current electricity demand. It doesn’t need Australia.

do we trust blind faith in COALition that export hydrogen is real? Embedded in our manufacture of green product iron and aluminium maybe. But, especially based on offshore wind, most countries have their own, so power directly, hydrogen nowhere near as certain as claimed.

Fuelling one of the 4 engines or all? How is this be “sustainable”? Will everybody stop cooking? How much edible crop land will be pressganged into this delusion? And, about hydrogen, as liquid, any failure will make Hindenburg look like kiddie’s birthday cake.

“outsolation”. “You can design out the pipes by putting a sort of tea cosy around houses, like the Dutch Energiesprong exterior retrofit. They can superinsulate your house to net zero standard in a single day whilst you’re at work, and meanwhile they’ve dropped in a very efficient heat pump core for mechanicals, and put on a super-insulated solar roof. And when you get back, you pay them rather than your energy companies.”

Insurers could have been climate heroes. Instead, they have risked a crisis to dwarf 2008

And if private insurers raise rates or pull out, do taxpayers want to assume responsibility for trillions of dollars of damages from climate risks to protect people who choose to live in harm’s way?
