Australia’s electricity emissions continue to rise, now 5.5 % higher than before carbon price was dumped, putting Australia against the global trend which is seeing energy emissions flat-lining even as the global economy expands.Pitt & Sherry analyst Hugh Saddler says in his latest monthly survey that total emissions from electricity generation in NEM(National Electricity Market, all but Western Australia and the Northern Territory) increased again in year to March 2016.
Annual emissions were 5.5 per cent higher than in the year to June 2014, when the Coalition killed the carbon price introduced by the Labor government, to much acclaim from the government (see picture above).

This week, Deutsche Post announced that serial production of the first 2,000 vehicles would begin this year. The goal is to produce a total of 30,000. The company also says that it has already received queries by third parties and is willing to sell the vehicles as soon as it covers its own demand. The firm also specifically says it is addressing a market not yet served by Tesla: utility vehicles…Because vans will be used in a fleet for deliveries, range doesn’t need to be as great, apparently 80km. The StreetScooter is to be considerably lighter and allow for the driver to get in and out more easily. StreetScooter manufactures Ebikes as well as 4 wheelers.

The Greens have a policy of approving no new thermal coal or unconventional gas projects in Australia. That includes new mines, as well as expansions to existing mines. In 2013 the party obtained costings from the parliamentary budget office detailing their estimate of how much revenue the federal budget would lose as a result of reduced tax and any other costs, if the policy was implemented. It was then estimated the policy would result in the government missing out on $1.5bn over the forward estimates – the four years to July 2017. The Greens asked for the same advice again this year and that figure dropped dramatically to just $290m over the forward estimates – the four years to July 2019.

“Adios gas-powered cars.” That was the reaction of Barclays analyst Brian Johnston over the weekend to news that Tesla Motors had received orders for nearly 200,000 of its Model 3 electric vehicle in less than two days. By nightfall on Saturday, that order tally had jumped to 276,000. That’s more than $US280 million in zero-cost capital to Tesla, from the $US1,000, $A1,500 and €1,000 deposits, and total orders for more than $A13 billion of electric vehicles.
So, how long before our leaders offer rebates for electric vehicles recognising long life reduction of both emissions and cost of imported petrol/diesel?

In a majority vote, the lower house of Dutch parliament supported a motion to no longer allow new sales of petrol or diesel cars from 2025. Last year in Paris, eight US states and five countries (one of which being the Netherlands) joined the International Zero-Emission Vehicle (ZEV) Alliance, pledging to make all new passenger vehicles sales electric by 2050. In 2015, the Netherlands saw over 43,000 new plug-ins purchased, out of some 449,347 registrations, good for a 9.6% market share.
We could only imagine the reaction if the US, or other major auto producing country, also made a commitment such as this. Also India’s roads minister last week was quoted as saying he wanted all cars to be electric by 2030. Norway intends to do this by 2025. Meanwhile leadership in Australia leads us backwards, downwards, dirty and brown protecting muscle cars!

How many more records need to be broken before leaders start to follow such convincing lead set by climate science, the science “we don’t dispute”?
Less than a day after Elon Musk officially unveiled the jaw-dropping Model 3 at the Tesla Design Center, he took to Twitter to announce that 232,000 reservations have been placed. The figure isn’t surprising considering earlier in the day Musk tweeted that 180,000 Model 3 deposits were accepted in just 24 hours since the reservation window opened. This crushes our earlier predictions that Tesla would sell 100,000 units within the first day.
When will PM Turnbull get real, with rebates for EV’s? If we can save huge foreign debt for oil purchases, we won’t depend on revenue from so much coal export.
Yes. Australia does likely have the highest proportion of households with PV systems on their roof of any country in the world.
But to be clear, Australia does not have the most PV rooftop capacityinstalled per person. By that we mean there are a number of other countries that currently generate a higher proportion of their total electricity from PV than Australia..also have larger commercial and industrial PV systems (often tens to hundreds of kilowatts in size) or utility PV plants (which can be a megawatt – 1,000 kilowatts – to tens of megawatts in size).

Australia is unusual in that some 85% of its installed PV capacity is small systems less than 10kW.
