US Can’t Ignore That Climate Crisis Will Force 120 Million People Into Poverty

Neither can Australia. Except Murdoch media drags so much attention to such trivial topics as religious freedom. Or even proposal that Australia will actually be defensible if only we adopt nuclear weapons.

Climate Change: Why is it so often “sooner than predicted”?

Short term sensitivity is 2-4.5 C, but long term is more like 10C. The crime of IPCC and other modelling outfits is that they are aware of this difference between short and long term, but still use the short term value even when they are doing hand-waving studies of what is going to happen over the next century or two.”

But when it comes to making accurate predictions, maybe it’s no longer important.Perhaps the lesson here is just that it’s worse than we think and worse than we want and—we must consider this possibility—worse than we can fix.

So then our challenge is to accept that and to take responsible action.

Climate change was behind this summer’s extreme weather

Climate change deniers love to point to scientific uncertainty as justification for inaction on climate. But uncertainty is a reason for even more concerted action. We already know that projections historically have been too optimistic about the rates of ice sheet collapse and sea-level rise. Now it appears they are also underestimating the odds of extreme weather as well. The consequences of doing nothing grow by the day. The time to act is now.
