Warsaw – Day 7: World ‘neglects climate impact on food’

Wrong kind of politicians – Professor Maslin said: “We’re already planning for 4°C world because that’s where we’re heading. I don’t know any scientists who don’t believe that.
“If we had the kind of politicians we really need we could still put in place policies that can save the planet. But there’s no evidence that we have that quality of politician, so we all have to be prepared for the most likely scenario, which is a 4°C rise in temperature. “If we don’t prepare to adapt we simply won’t be able to.” The draft says  “climate change will reduce median yields [of major crops, wheat, rice and maize] by 0 to 2% per decade for rest of century…while demand increases by about 14% per decade until 2050″.
