Brace for an electric shock is the headline to this story at Climate Spectator. Despite Germany being a colder climate than Australia and despite that it’s considered to be expensive, in general, and despite our media “war on truth” which would have you believe that extravagance on renewable energy will bring Germany to it’s knees, actually, German households pay half as much for electricity.
Actual cost per kWh is same as here. The big difference is Germans use 50% less, because of investment/incentives/building codes for energy reducing insulation and efficient appliances, along with behavioural change, influenced by conspicuous investment in renewables.
If the term “negawatts” is new to you, it refers to energy that you don’t use. In places like Germany and California, it’s well established that every $1, invested in energy minimisation, returns $2 to $3 in reduced demand/lower $/kWhr, reducing need to invest in more, big, centralised power stations, with all the emissions, poles and wires for distribution, if nothing is done to moderate demand.
Meanwhile, with so much more sunshine and wind in Australia, we let our leaders be held hostile by fossil fuel mega corporations.
