Are complaints valid, that wind messes up coal fired power?

It’s been a standard complaint that wind isn’t viable because it’s too sporadic and needs to be backed up by just as much “real” coal or gas power. More recently, the soothsayers at Murdoch media have been suggesting that wind power is not fair competition because, with subsidies, while it’s cheaper, it causes coal power stations to slow down, causing more CO2 for less power, so wind ends up causing more CO2 emissions!! Usual smoke and mirrors nonsense.

They actually get far more subsidies and Victorian brown coal power is “so cheap” that they haven’t lost anything and are exporting to NSW!!
