Didn’t novelty wear off nuclear back in 1960s and 70s? It might have assumed critical mass if all of weapons, navy, merchant navy and civilian power got on board. It was huge infatuation but too dangerous for long term relationship for any other than just a few obsessives. USA subs with claimed 30 year life depend on recycled weapons grade uranium, recycled into big stockpile in 1960s, very much depleted. USA next gen sub will use less dangerous fuel, safely replaced every 20 years, during regular refit, as per French nuke.
