In Victoria, our brown coal power is the dirtiest, with big losses in long transmission lines. Of course, they still make a profit because taxpayer subsidies are so generous that they pay only 1.5cents/kWh and they’re exempt from paying huge amounts of carbon tax, all told, close to $1Billion/year. Surely such huge cash handout could be spent more wisely?
